Overview

Many factors prevent Coloradans from accessing health care, including a lack of affordable, quality care and a shortage of providers. Health insurance is simply unaffordable for thousands of lower income Colorado families. It is estimated that more than 785,000 Coloradans (17%) are without health insurance in any given month. Many more people cannot afford adequate coverage for themselves and their families. Of the uninsured, 78% are working adults and 21% are children under 18 years of age. Colorado ranks 44th among states for the percentage of uninsured children and 51st – behind all states and the District of Columbia – for the percentage of uninsured children living at or below 200% Federal Poverty Level (FPL).

Grant support from The Colorado Trust to expand health coverage first to people who are the most vulnerable and disadvantaged, including children and low-income working families, and ultimately to all Coloradans, includes:

  • Researching, developing and implementing policy options to increase access
  • Strengthening the advocacy community and consumer voice in Colorado
  • Increasing public awareness about health care access.
